Fall is just around the corner and it’s time to start deciding on locations for fall family photos in DFW. The cooler weather and fall colors make for one of the prettiest times of year for family photos. DFW offers a variety of beautiful backdrops, including open fields, stunning lake views, fall foliage, naturally-lit studios, and beautiful architecture. As a DFW family photographer, I have a list of my favorite locations. Some are secret gems, while others are popular locations. In this blog, I am sharing 5 popular locations for fall photos in Dallas and Fort Worth.
Table of Contents
Kimbell Art Museum
Nothing says Fort Worth quite like the stunning architecture at the Kimbell Art Museum. With its modern design, this location offers a lot of variety. From water features and vine-covered walls to beautiful arches, the Kimbell Art Museum is a popular photo location. And when the fall light hits just right, it is magical. The Kimbell is a great fit for extended family sessions, mini sessions, or a full-length family session.

Tandy Hills
Tandy Hills is a favorite location of mine – beautiful, peaceful, and full of wide-open prairie views. The trails wind through preserved grasslands, and from certain spots, you can catch a glimpse of the Fort Worth skyline. It’s a popular spot for family, engagement, and senior sessions, and it’s easy to see why.
During your session, we’ll stick to the designated trails as we explore the landscape and finish with a sunset overlooking the city.
Because of its conservation efforts and growing popularity, I only photograph full-length sessions here on certain days of the week. If Tandy Hills is on your wish list, be sure to reserve your spot early! A permit may be required to use the area.

White Rock Lake
This park in Dallas is one of my absolute favorite spots year-round! With open fields, gravel trails, peaceful lake views, and stunning fall colors, it offers a beautiful mix of scenery for both morning and evening sessions. The variety of backdrops makes it easy to move around and capture different looks without going far.
It’s a popular location for family photos, as well as families walking the trails, so I recommend scheduling your session in the early morning or on a weekday evening to avoid the crowds. The leaves typically turn vibrant shades of orange and yellow by late November – so if you’re hoping for peak fall color, a later session is your best bet.

Marine Creek Lake Park
This location isn’t as well known as some of the others but it is quite the gem. There’s a small garden, lake views, grassy areas, and even a small area for beach access (to include in your session or to make part of your night out). There’s plenty of little spots at Marine Creek Lake to sneak off to for family photos and the parking is pretty easy!

Studio Locations
Dallas and Fort Worth offers several beautiful studio locations. With bright, naturally-lit spaces, studio sessions eliminate most weather concerns and provide a perfect, simple location for family photos. I love booking studios that are simple and minimal so that the focus stays on your family. These are also great for extended family sessions! My two favorite locations for studios are The Lumen Room and The Cottonwood Collective Studio because of the amount of natural light.
