The Dallas and Fort Worth area has no shortage of beautiful locations for family photos, but family photos at the Cactus Garden in Fort Worth is one of my favorite spots. Located next to the Fort Worth Stockyards and River Ranch (500 NE 23rd St, Fort Worth, TX 76164). This spot has a mix of cacti, gravel paths, and natural light that gives your family photos a unique Texas feel.
There are so many different textures throughout the garden that it’s easy to create a gallery with lots of variety, all within a relatively small space. It’s a location that feels uniquely Fort Worth while still being timeless and beautiful year-round.
As a Fort Worth family photographer, my approach to photographing families is the same at every location. My goal is to document your family in a way that feels authentic, joyful, and true to everyday life. I never want a session to feel stiff or overly posed. You’ll have guidance, of course, but your family is always the star.

Why I Love the Family Photos at the Cactus Garden in Fort Worth
One of my favorite things about the Cactus Garden is how much variety there is in such a small space. We can move around the garden pretty easily, giving the kids plenty to explore while creating a gallery with lots of different looks without having to travel from one spot to another.
The cacti, soft green tones, and gravel paths create a backdrop that’s a little different from the typical park setting while still giving kids plenty of room to explore and simply be themselves. It’s a location that photographs beautifully in every season and is perfect for families with young kids, maternity sessions, and milestone photos. With plenty of shade throughout the garden, it’s a great option at a variety of times throughout the day making it flexible for your family’s schedule.
And with the Stockyards just steps away, it’s easy to turn your photo session into a fun family evening afterward (a win-win for everybody!).
Prepping for a Natural, Lifestyle Session
Before your session, you’ll fill out a questionnaire so I can get to know your family and what’s most important to you. One of my favorite questions asks, “In 20 years, when you look back at these photos, what will you remember most?” Over the years, I’ve found the answer is almost never a perfectly posed family portrait. Instead, families want to remember the laughter, the connection, the tiny details, and the real moments that tell their story.
We’ll absolutely capture the traditional smiling photo, but the rest of the session is spent exploring the space, playing together, and documenting your family as you naturally interact. You don’t need to worry about smiling at the camera the entire time – I’ll let you know when to look at me.
Instead, I want you to focus on being together while I pay attention to the little moments: what makes your kids giggle, the quiet moments with your spouse, tiny hands fitting into yours, and the little gestures of love between siblings. The things you said you want to remember most.
