A 2025 Reflection || Fort Worth Family Photography

As 2025 comes to a close, I’ve found myself doing a lot of reflecting. Well, really a mix of reflecting and planning. You know that quiet stretch between Christmas and the new year, when things slow down just enough for your brain to finally catch up? That space has always felt grounding to me.

I’ve always loved the start of a new year. There’s something about it that’s always excited me. The feeling that maybe this is the time we reset a little. Refocus. Maybe plan to do a little less of the things that don’t actually matter as much as we thought they did.

Going into 2025, I set a simple intention to slow down in my personal life, which is kind of wild considering we’ve entered school aged kid years and my goodness the to do lists seem to substantially grow. But nonetheless, I went in to 2025 with the goal of soaking it all in. To enjoy my morning coffee without immediately jumping into the endless to do list. Did I nail it perfectly? Absolutely not. Some mornings I was still answering emails while my coffee lost all of it’s warmth, or losing parts of my sanity hopping from one event to the other. But I did better. And I found a lot of comfort and intention in the slower moments. Weekend hikes with my family. Slower dinners. Weekend breakfasts where we listened to our kids giggle over a ridiculous amount of syrup and chocolate chip pancakes.

What I didn’t expect was how naturally that same pace, the same intention, would carry over into my work as a family photographer.

What I Learned Photographing Families in 2025

Somewhere along the way, my focus in business shifted. Away from worrying about numbers (honestly, spending a little less time on social probably helped). Away from what I thought I should be doing. And instead, toward joy. Toward work that feels good to take on. Toward sessions that move a little slower and leave more room to breathe. Toward work that feels like me.

Lately, I’ve found myself drawn even more to the quiet moments during sessions. The way a toddler reaches for their mom’s hand without thinking. The visible signs of relief from parents about twenty minutes in, when they realize I’m not going to ask them to perform, smile on command, or wrangle everyone into a perfect pose (because let’s be real, that’s stressful all on it’s own).

Looking back, it’s kind of funny to think about how much time I spent early in my career trying to follow posing prompts and mental checklists. Honestly, I learned pretty quickly that approach didn’t feel like me. Because family photography is about so much more than getting everyone to look at the camera at the same time. Every family shows up differently, and your photos should reflect that. Not feel like another thing to check off a very long list.

And that’s my focus for 2026. Even more authenticity. Slightly less perfect. And photographing beautiful moments that feel like you.

The Moments That Kept Showing Up

One of my favorite parts of photographing families is how different every session feels, and yet how familiar the moments can be. This year, I started noticing the same little things happening again and again.

Little hands reaching up for mom or dad. Kids who take half the session to warm up and then suddenly don’t want to leave. Parents leaning in closer or exchanging a quiet glance when things feel chaotic. Dads relaxing once they realize it’s not nearly as stressful as they imagined. Moms looking at their kids in that quiet, adoring way. Little feet that never stop moving, even when we all agree they should probably take a break (iykyk!).

I leaned into warmth. Softness. Love. Joy. Silly personalities. Little details. The moments between frames.

And if this year taught me anything, it’s that perfect is rarely the goal. As a mom to two little ones, I can promise that nothing really works that way anyway. And maybe that’s the point.

Not every session was calm. Not every kid wanted to participate right away. Some days felt loud, fast, and a little unpredictable. But honestly, those sessions, the ones that weren’t perfect, often ended up being my favorites.

Through my lens, I saw how beautiful it can be when families stop trying to fix the moment and instead lean into it. The same way you probably do when there isn’t a camera involved.

Looking Toward 2026

This way of photographing families feels honest to me. It feels sustainable. And it feels like the work I want to keep doing.

As I look toward the year ahead, I’m excited to keep leaning into family photography in a way that truly lights me up. Photos that highlight the beauty in your family that’s already there. Protecting space. Staying present. Continuing to photograph families in a way that feels gentle, intentional, and true. And honestly, figuring out how to do that even better.

My 2026 calendar is open, and I’d love to document this season of your family with you. Reach out and let’s chat. Or if you want to stay in the know and follow along, my newsletter is the perfect place!

BEHIND THE LENS

I'm Amber

I’m a photographer located in the Fort Worth area where I live with my husband and our two kids.

I’ve had a camera in hand since childhood, but it wasn’t until motherhood that I truly wished I could freeze time.

As a mom to two young kids, I know just how quickly the seasons pass. With coffee in one hand and a never-ending to-do list in the other, photography gives us the space to pause, slow down, and truly cherish the memories.

My goal for every session is to capture your family in a way that is authentic, while making the process easy and meaningful. I want you to look back at your photos years from now and see just how beautiful it all was.
