Celebrating the first year is such a big milestone, for you and baby! One year of your precious little one. And, what better way to celebrate your baby’s first birthday than with an at-home milestone session. A session filled with love and of course, a cake smash.
I had the honor of capturing this family’s maternity and newborn photos, so seeing their little one again for his first birthday felt extra special. When we started planning this session, mom shared her vision for a relaxed, lifestyle feel, and an at-home session made the most sense. Together, we created a mood board for inspiration and mapped out how the day would unfold focusing on things that mattered most to them.
One of the best parts of being a family photographer is getting to document your family in a way that feels true and genuine to you. And that’s exactly how this session felt. While I also photograph milestone sessions in the studio or outdoors, there’s something uniquely meaningful about capturing family photos in the comfort of your own home.
When deciding where to take your one-year milestone photos, choose a location that makes the most sense for your family. And honestly? Home might just be it. Everyone stays comfortable, you’re surrounded by familiar spaces, and what better way to wrap up the first year than in the place where so many memories were made.
Planning Photos At Home
- Lighting: What time of day does your home get the best natural light?
- Spaces: If your indoor light is limited, could we use your porch or backyard?
- Timing: When does your baby nap? And what time of day are they happiest?
- Details: Do you want to include a cake smash or a few playful moments in their nursery?
- Everyday life: What does a normal day at home look like for your family?
- Connection: Are there parts of your daily routine you’d love captured (like morning snuggles, story time on the couch, a playful sink bath, etc)?
After you book your session, we’ll go over all of these details together. I’ll guide you through what to expect and help plan around light, routines, and your family’s natural rhythm. The goal is simple: to create a session that feels effortless and true to your family.
