A Gentle Approach to Newborn Photos with Siblings // DFW Newborn Lifestyle Photographer
Newborn photos with siblings can sometimes feel like a big task. Add in toddlers, and it might seem overwhelming. But truly, it doesn’t have to feel that way. As a DFW newborn photographer, my approach is gentle and easy, giving your family space to relax and enjoy the moment. Your newborn photos shouldn’t be stressful, and my goal is to make that true.
This newborn session with siblings was such a joy. This family of five welcomed their newest little one, and the two big siblings couldn’t have been sweeter. They were loving, silly, and proud to be near their baby brother. The way they leaned in for kisses and held him carefully reminded me why I love photographing siblings during newborn sessions.

In families with more than one little one, you might be worried about how the newborn session will go. The truth is, it doesn’t need to feel perfect. Some of the most meaningful images come from small, natural interactions – a sister counting her baby brother’s toes, leaning in for one more hug from mom, or a brother making everyone laugh with a silly face. Those quiet, real moments tell your family’s story in the most genuine way, and I lean into that throughout the entire session.
To keep newborn photos with siblings feeling easy and gentle, I focus on a few simple things:
- Following your little ones’ lead. If siblings want to snuggle, we let them. If they need a moment, that’s okay too! They can move in and out of photos, and I’m ready to roll with any personality your little one brings.
- Using playful, natural prompts. Instead of stiff posing, I encourage natural interactions – silly games, books, songs, or quiet snuggles. I might even step back and simply capture your family connecting. You shouldn’t feel like you’re “performing” during our time together.
- Building in flexibility. Newborn sessions are never rushed. If a snack or a quick play break is needed, we pause and go with the flow, letting every moment happen at your family’s pace.
As a DFW newborn photographer and mom of two, I know how fleeting the newborn season is. My goal is always to create images that feel calm, real, and full of love. Newborn photos are never about creating perfect photos. They’re about documenting this season exactly as it is. Your older children are adjusting to a big change too, and their personalities are an important part of your story. Whether your little one wants to hold the baby, read a book beside you, or simply snuggle close to mom and dad, those moments are ones you’ll want to remember.
Wardrobe Note: Mom wore one of the dresses from my client closet, and it was perfect for this session. The client closet is available to every mom I work with, taking away the stress of choosing what to wear. Each piece photographs beautifully and helps moms feel confident and comfortable.
