As a DFW in-home newborn photographer, I hear this concern often: “What if my baby won’t sleep?” First, don’t worry! During your newborn session, we will always follow the lead of your newest arrival—some babies sleep the whole time, while others are wide awake. Newborn sessions aren’t just about sleepy poses. Some of my favorite images come from alert little ones gazing up at their parents. Those bright, curious eyes and tiny expressions? Pure magic.
If your baby is fussy, we take our time. I always allow plenty of breaks for feeding, snuggles, and soothing which is why newborn sessions take a little longer than a family session. Your baby sets the pace, which is what makes lifestyle newborn photography so special—it’s all about capturing real, natural moments.
Here are a few things I suggest before your session: Try feeding your baby right before I arrive—a full belly usually makes for a sleepy, content newborn. Throughout your session, we can use swaddles, as most babies love being wrapped up and cozy, which often helps them settle. But if your little one prefers movement, I’ll capture the moments of you rocking or cuddling them. No need to stress—every moment is part of your newborn’s story, and I’m here to document it.
Many parents worry their baby “has” to sleep. The truth? Awake or asleep, we’ll capture beautiful, timeless moments. Whether it’s tiny yawns, soft stretches, or wide-eyed wonder, it’s all perfect.
