First birthday family photos are some of my favorite sessions to capture as a photographer! There’s just something about that first year with your baby that is extra special. Your baby has grown so much in a year and so have you. One of the best ways to document this chapter is with first birthday family photos.
Below are a few things to think about when planning your baby’s first birthday family photos in Fort Worth.
When to Schedule First Birthday Family Photos
One of the first decisions to make is when to schedule your session. Most families choose to take photos a few weeks before their baby turns one so the images are ready in time for first birthday celebrations. But there’s really no “right” timing here. A little before or after still lets you document that first year in a meaningful way.

What to Expect During First Birthday Photos
Once you’re booked, we’ll start planning the details and bring your vision to life. Some families love to include a cake smash at the end of their session, which is always such a fun way to celebrate.
We’ll also choose the perfect location, whether that’s at home, outdoors, or in a studio. The session featured here was taken at The Omorfia Room, a house studio in Fort Worth. It was the perfect backdrop to capture a mix of lifestyle moments, family portraits, and a sweet little cake smash at the end.
During the session, everything is baby-led. I always follow the lead of those in front of me. Some babies are on the move, some are a little shy, and some may just want to be held the whole time. And all of that is completely okay and expected. We’ll take breaks, follow their pace, and your family just gets to enjoy the time together. I’ll take care of the rest.
At the end of the day, these sessions are about more than just marking a milestone. They’re about remembering what that first year felt like and celebrating it together as a family.
