Creekside Session with Kids // Fort Worth Family Photography
You’re ready to book a family photography session. You know you want to capture the little details, the love and joy in your family, and memories you never want to fade. But… you’re worried your photos will feel stiff or awkward? Or maybe you’re thinking “I’m just awkward in front of the camera.”
You’re not alone. Most families ask what they should do during a session. But the best photos happen when you let go a little. You’re not awkward – your family is perfect just as you are.
During your session, I’ll gently guide when needed, step back so you can just be, and focus on the light, the connection, and all the good stuff unfolding in front of me.
So as you get ready for your Fort Worth family photography session, here are three simple things to keep in mind to help it feel natural.

1. Let Your Kids Be Kids
I never expect perfectly behaved or still children (and I can almost guarantee those aren’t the photos you really want – although yes, we will get the “everyone look and smile” shot). I have two little ones of my own – I totally get their energy and eagerness to explore. Kids do best when they’re allowed to be. To move, to explore, and just be themselves. Think of their favorite things to do. Songs that always make them giggle. Their quirks and personalities. These are the things we can lean into.
So, during your session…let your kids be kids. Let them be themselves. Let them be shy, or silly, or curious. It’s what you will want to remember years from now.
This family session had three little ones, and we ended the evening by the creek. Once they started splashing and exploring, their little personalities really came alive. And now, this family has the sweetest memories of a night by the water.

2. Focus on Your People
Don’t stress about where to look or whether everyone’s smiling. Just focus on your people. Hold your toddler close. Play with your preschooler’s curls. Kiss your baby’s cheeks. Snuggle up to your spouse.
The more you connect with your family, the more meaningful and honest your photos will feel. I’ll guide when needed, but the more you lean into your people (the way you would if I wasn’t there), the better!
3. Trust the Process
You don’t need a shot list or Pinterest board. I’ll gently guide when needed and step back when something sweet unfolds. Your only job is to be present. That’s when the real moments happen. Treat your evening like a mini family date – just with some paparazzi, haha. (And this paparazzi knows how to find the good light, flattering angles, and all the tiny details you’ll want to remember.)
This is what family photography looks like for me: connection over perfection, laughter over pressure. If this sounds like your jam, reach out. I’d love to chat!
