Outdoor Family Photos // Fort Worth and Dallas Photographer
Family photos are about preserving the moments you never want to forget – and they don’t have to follow a calendar. As you think about a family session this year, take a moment to pause and reflect: What chapter are you in right now? Is there something you want to hold onto a little longer – a milestone, a growing belly, a new baby, or just the way life feels in this season? Whatever it is, it’s worth remembering. And in Fort Worth, every season offers the perfect backdrop to do just that.
As a family photographer in Fort Worth and Dallas, I photograph families year-round, and I truly love every season. While fall is a favorite among many families, each season in North Texas offers something beautiful.
Read below for a quick look at what makes each season a great time for outdoor family photos in Fort Worth, plus a few things to keep in mind when booking.

Fall Family Photos – Warm Tones and Beautiful Foliage
Fall is a classic choice for a reason – rich colors and cool weather make it irresistible. Think earthy tones, cozy layers, and gorgeous foliage. There are a ton of beautiful spots in Fort Worth that are great this time of year. It’s also a popular season for families getting yearly photos and so I recommend getting on the calendar early for these. Be sure to join my newsletter for first access to my calendar.
Things to consider for outdoor fall photos: In Fort Worth, early fall tends to be green but as we enter late November and December, the fall colors tend to come out! Evening sessions typically take place about 1-2 hours before sunset so this season might work great if your little one has an early bedtime! This season is one of the busiest so be sure to reach out early to book a fall session.

Winter Family Photos – Cozy and Quiet
Winter sessions are perfect for cozying up outdoors. While it might be a tad chilly, Fort Worth and Dallas usually have a good amount of mild winter days. Plus, the soft winter light creates a beautiful, timeless look. Lakeside sessions are some of my favorites during winter, as the neutral tones and blue skies pair so well together.
Things to consider for outdoor winter photos: The sun sets early in the winter so sessions have an earlier start time. Consider layers and warm blankets to stay comfortable on chilly days! If it happens to be too cold that day, we can always reschedule or head indoors!

Spring Family Photos – Fresh Blooms and Mild Temperatures
Spring is all about new beginnings and bright blooms. Fresh flowers and lush greenery make for stunning backdrops. It’s the perfect season for families and kids as the weather is mild and daylight lasts a little longer. I love finding locations with wildflowers, bluebonnets, and beautiful light. As the days get warmer throughout spring, we can even explore creekside locations.
Things to consider for outdoor spring photos: For wildflowers, bluebonnets usually bloom late March and other wildflowers bloom April/May. This time of year is great for early to mid-morning or evening sessions (about 1-2 hours before sunset). This season does get busier so be sure to reach out early to get on the calendar.

Summer Family Photos – Long and Slow Evenings
Summer offers warm, golden evenings that feel truly magical. One of the best parts of this season is the long days, giving us plenty of time to embrace a relaxed pace. It’s the season of childhood memories – playing by the creek, blowing bubbles in the backyard, and flying kites in open fields. Your photos should reflect this. With a summer session, we can explore a variety of options to truly capture this time of year.
Things to consider for outdoor summer photos: With the heat and harsh light, outdoor sessions typically take place early morning or about an hour before sunset. For little ones with early bedtimes, the morning hours might work best as sunset in the summer is pretty late. Don’t forget to pack some extra waters and dress comfortably to beat the heat!
